Pact Magics Empty
Approved#1PostSubject: Pact Magics   Pact Magics EmptyWed May 03, 2017 2:51 pm

Most commonly used by Archdemons on lesser demons, Pact Magic can be used by almost anyone with the know how and the opportunity.

Blood Pact:
Typically done by comrades to symbolize their bond in battle, a true Blood Pact is far different. True Blood Pacts are used by practitioners of Blood Magic. They consist of a swapping of an amount of blood between the two participants. The strength of the Mage, the magical content of the blood, and the amount of blood used determines the strength of this type of Pact. It is also possible to distinguish the nature of the Pact, be it master-servant or equal-equal, by markings made of blood on the participant's bodies. These markings must be made of the other participant's blood.

Demon Pact:
Demon pacts range in strength and shape. They are typically made between two demons of different strength, however they can be performed between a demon and a non-demon. In their most classic and simplest state a demon pact is a simple servant-master pact where the servant must follow every single one of the master's orders. Equal-egual pacts made in this way are rare, though not necessarily difficult to do. Though, for normal demon-demon servant-master pacts any run of the mill archdemon can perform them.

For stronger pacts, or pacts between a non-demon and a demon a Pact Holder is needed. A Pact Holder is a type of demon that is at times, stronger than an Archdemon. Unable to survive on their own, Pact Holders will nearly always possess another creature. Sometimes they will possess other demons. Significantly weak at their birth, a Pact Holder is only able to enslave the lowest of Imps, but as they gain more pacts they are able to devour their previous pacts and pactees in order to grow stronger. However, this is rare as Pact Holders like to have large forces that follow them blindly.

For a lesser demon, there is no true benefit to forming a pact with a stronger demon. They are trading their freedom for safety. So there is no net gain for them. For Non-Demons, there are numerous reasons why this would be a good idea. There are also five levels to Non-Demon and Demon Pacts:

1) Full Possession: Full Possession occurs when a Pact Holder or some other Demon manages to overpower the original soul in a body. This results in the destruction of the soul, leaving just the Demon in the body.

2) Partial Possession: The most dangerous state that a pactee and a Demon can be in. It is on the edge, able to turn to Full Possession or revert to Mind Touching. However, in exchange for the risk, the pactee gains an enormous amount of power from their Demonic counterpart and are able to use some of their abilities freely.

3) Mind Touching: While far safer than Partial Possession, Mind Touching is also much weaker. While the Pactee does receive some boons from the pact, they are slight. Any advantage that a Pactee in this sort of pact would have is the ability to telepathically communicate with their Demonic counterpart from everywhere.

4) Separated: A Separated Pact is more of an oath of allegiance bound in magic. It can grant the pactee the use of great power but only for a short timeframe. It is also dependent on how close to their Demonic counterpart they are. The closer the pactee is to his/her Demon, the stronger their powers are.

5) Servant-Master: The most basic of Pacts, the Servant-Master Pact is typically forced onto non-demons in order to get an east work force. It holds absolutely nothing good for the pactee and it is advised that a non-demon does not enter into the servant portion of this pact with a demon.

Anam Joining:
Special to the Dryads, this type of Pact is a marriage between the Anams of two different Dryads. It is their equivalent to marriage and is unbreakable. Anyone with an Anam can participate in this kind of Pact. Allows the other pactee to know how their partner is doing, if not their partner's location.

Hey Elias,

If this gets approved and any updates need to be made to it after getting approved, then can you do that in your Spellbook?

Alrighty, I'm not too sure about the blood pact thing so I'll run this by Sam since Blood magic is a thing he made and I don't know much about its nuances.

Is there any actual benefit for a Demon pact? The way it's written, only the master gains in having a pact and no demon would have an interest in forming pacts between itself and mortals since the pact holder would potentially be more powerful than the demon and its servant and the moment said pact holder gets a new pact to manage, it consumes the previous pact.

Anam joining is fine since it's your stuff

Note: Elias' spellbook is only a character resource. I only put the magics Elias has access to in his spellbook and the information in there doesn't change the established lore.

I understand about the blood magic part, I just thought that it would be really fitting for this lore piece.

As for the demon Pact part:
The Pact Holder is typically in a servant-master pact with a stronger demon, having gotten like that in the early stages of their lives.
They do not just consume all their old pacts, they just have the choice to do so if they wish.

I updated the pacts!
