The Zaegrim Inquisition

Nation Name: The Zaegrim Inquisition

Species Name: Zaegrim'a Nzani (The Children of Zaegrim/ The Children)

Homeplanet: Zaegrim'a Oqh (Zaegrim's Spirit)

Sentience: Sentient

Strengths
They mix science and magic into potent Magitechnology, much like their ex-Crusade Ancestors did.

Weaknesses
They are generally physically fragile people, relying on their Magitek to keep them protected during combat.

Appearance
The Children have male and female variants. Much like humans, they have two arms and two legs, and four fingers with a thumb on both hands. Males and Females generally average in the same heights and weights, but the genders have different weight placement and proportions. Average heights include 5 feet and six inches to six feet and four inches.
Physical features include slender, graceful builds, and thin angular facial features. Women have narrower waists than men, but noticeably wider hips and torsos. Men are generally the same width from torso to hips with a slightly thinner waist. Despite their slender builds and inability to take much punishment, The Children are quite athletic and dextrous - making up in speed and agility what they lack in sturdiness and constitution.

Skin color is generally a light gray with a slight tinge of blue, but a light pale blue is also common. Snow white and Raven black are the most common hair colors with occasional pale blue and dark gray. Eyes tend to be silver or deep red. Oddly enough, silver eyes are almost exclusively found on Children with white or pale blue hair, while red eyes tend to appear in those with black or dark gray hair.

Culture
The Children are unshakably devoted to their one deity: Zaegrim - The All-Father. Due to the consideration that it is treason and blasphemy to accept any other deities, Children never allow other religions to influence them. They absolutely refuse to even speak of other religions. They respect certain virtues and values of other religions and those who follow those religions, but to talk of a religion directly is a grave insult (though there are exceptions to this rule in that casual conversations tolerate telling a Child the name of your Religion, but nothing else). The Children are, perhaps, seen as a tad rigid in regards to this, but they are actually quite an amiable people in general.

The Children believe that an individual's face should only be seen by family, lovers, or close friends. As such, they were outlandish and ornate headdresses with attachable face masks that cover all but the cheeks, jawlines, chin, and the edges of the mouth.

The extension that covers the nose and mouth has a built in vocal modifier that gives a Child's voice a somewhat high-pitch metallic distortion effect when speaking.

Inquisition architecture has a "Futuristic Gothic" look to it. Black Metals and Materials are common building tools, and designs are generally cathedral-esque and angular in appearance. Because their technology is powered by magical energy, rather than electricity or nuclear power, bright neon-esque trails of dark red or dark blue can be seen pulsating from within and without buildings. These concentrated areas of magical energy were placed with aesthetic beauty in mind.

The Zaegrim Inquisition is led by Zaegrim's Heart. Male or Female (currently Female), the Heart is not only the political ruler, but is also the religious and high military leader, as well. He/she does his/her best to lead his/her people to prosperity and out of decline and struggle with with a firm kindness. The Heart is almost always beloved by all Children, and is rarely met with disdain or despised. This is not to say, however, that there are not individuals who would usurp the current leadership if given the chance.

History
The People of the Inquisition were once two separate species. Generations ago, a small group of individuals from the Demonic Crusade broke off, tired and weary of the Crusade's unending desire for conquest and chaos. Eventually, they came across a planet with friendly natives, and the two species soon co-existed. Eventually, interbreeding started, and the mixing of the races birthed what is known as the modern Zaegrim Inquisition. Eventually, the pure-blooded species died out because interbreeding became too commonplace. The harsh, brutal features of those who left the crusade mixed with the smaller, slender frames of the natives - thus the tall, slender frames of The Children today. The descendants of these species are told terrible stories of the Demonic Crusade's exploits, and a hatred for the Crusade is naturally bred into each new individual.

The Inquisition Military

The Military of the Inquisition is lead, absolutely, by Zaegrim's Heart. However, the second command is always the strongest warrior amongst the Children. Known as "Zaegrim's Avatar", this individual unusually retains the hardy nature of their Crusade descendants, while also obtaining impressive agility from their other genetic half. As a result, they are sturdier and stronger than any other soldier in the Inquisition. Revered for their might and majesty, the Avatar (currently female) is viewed as Zaegrim in the flesh, though whether or not they actually have the soul of Zaegrim himself is uncertain.

Inquisiton Military is broken up into several specialized sections: The Adepts, The Zealots, The Stalwarts, The Unseen, The Eyes of Zaegrim, the Worthy, Zaegrim's Chosen, the Aspirants, and the Acolytes.

Zaegrim's Adepts - The Adepts of Zaegrim are some of the quickest and most agile of the Inquisition's troops. Embracing their often superior speed and reflexes, the Adepts rely on quick attacks and evasion to lay waste to slower units who have no time to react. A favorite weapon of the Adepts is the "Sla'oqh", or "Killer Spirit" - a short vibrating hooked blade that spins on a circular handled disc. The Sla'oqh allows for acrobatic tactics.

Zaegrim's Stalwarts - Some soldiers of the Inquistion deem it necessary to sacrifice speed for defense. These Stalwarts don magitek suits that come with a Deflector Shield (Capable of absorbing multiple types of energy based projectiles and blade attacks), and Magilance (a large, encumbering piece of magitechnology that concentrates magical energy into high intensity extendable blades and small projectiles). While it is extremely difficult to harm a Stalwart from the front, their backs are much less protected - to break through a Stalwart Phalanx is a great insult.

Zaegrim's Zealots - Despite their radical-sounding name, the Zealots do not attack enemies haphazardly or recklessly. Instead, the Zealots use close to medium range firearms, such as rapid-fire Energy Rifles or Semi-Automatic Scattercannons. Their weapons are generally heavy, so they refrain from protecting themselves with an overbearing amount of magitek. While not as quick as Adepts due to their weapons, the Zealots are capable of avoiding blows by using their sturdy devices of death as shields - though doing so makes it difficult to retaliate. Overall, the Zealots require felling foes before they can close distance to be fully effective.

Zaegrim's Eyes -  The Eyes are the long ranged specialists of the Inquisition. Using Highly Concentrated Magitechnical Beam Technology, their rifles are capable of firing long-distance shots of concentrated magical energy to pierce foes and armor from long distances. They rely on their quick thinking and distance to avoid conflict, and when directly confronted, are quite difficult to catch, though once they have been hit once, they are quite quick to fall. As a result, they are often protected by a small group of Stalwarts or Adepts.

The Worthy - Due to their willingness to create volatile and dangerous combinations of technology and magical power, the Worthy are revered and honored. Due to the dangers of their work, it is not uncommon for a Worthy to fall before seeing their first battle. Those who survive are respected for their tenacity and it is an unspoken rule to cheer for these individuals when they appear on the battlefield. Using highly explosive magitek devices and artillery, the Worthy are the "Waymakers" of the Inquisition - capable of blowing holes in defenses and fortifications to allow Inquisition troops to advance.

The Unseen - The Unseen are the Inquisition's most enigmatic sect of military. Assassins and Saboteurs, the Unseen utilize Energy Blades that retract on the wrists, or small explosives to deal with specific targets or formations.

Zaegrim's Acolytes -  The Acolytes are less for combat and more for subterfuge and espionage. They infiltrate target areas to learn of an enemy's numbers and/or defenses, and search for anything to take advantage of such as weaknesses in a building or volatile materials. Due to their nature of being spies, they lack any sense of protection, relying on stealth and quick reflexes to remain unscathed or avoid detection altogether. If confronted, they prefer to use quick, non-lethal weapons that disorient foes.

Zaegrim's Aspirants - The Inqusition's Airforce - so named because they aspire to keep the skies of the Inquisition's worlds clear of all invaders and those who would do harm. From the smallest and quickest starfighters to the Prize Ship - Zaegrim's Might - the Airforce is a sight to behold. The Inquisition's fleet is a bit converse to their footsoldiers in that the vast majority of airships are highly armed and highly protected. As a result, they are not very quick, but instead, are very hard to take down. Of course, there are smaller ships that are less protected "Glass Cannons" that use quick maneuvers and weaponry to take down wayward targets. In most cases, the Aspirants are the Inquisition's Military pride and joy.

Marriage in the Inquisition

Despite their unyielding rigidity in all things religion, the people of the Zaegrim Inquisition are actually fairly open-minded in most other things - including marriage and relationships.

While traditional marriage between a male and female is the most commonplace, same-sex relations are not uncommon, and are often encouraged when the population of one gender reaches a certain threshold over the other gender in any given generation. The most famous of such marriages are almost always the marriage betwen Zaegrim's Heart and Zaegrim's Avatar. It is believed that through the relationship between these two strong individuals, the Inquisition as a whole can become stronger.

Regardless of the gender of both leaders, they are married traditionally. Whether or not they love each other is irrelevant, but love is a very common occurrence. The current composition of leaders is no exception to this, as the current, both female, leaders are very much fond of one another.

Is this still work in progress? Let me know when it's complete so I can judge it.
